USCG Auxiliary Meeting
Kodiak Flotilla – 5/10/08

Call to Order : The meeting was called to order at 08:40 at the Golden Anchor.
The Pledge of Allegiance was said and prayer was offered.

Frank Stearns, Carl Peterson, Bill Zimmerman, Kathy Huling, Denae McKinney, Roberta Blondin, Jim Swearingin, Jim McCullough and Paul Banyas were introduced as guests.

FC Amberg commented with thanks for the hard work by Joy Ng & Sharon Reppond in their work at the COHO Carnival. He also told the Auxiliary that the Coast Guard Officer’s Wives gave a contribution to the Auxiliary of $125.00. Proper thanks will be sent.

Flotilla Staff Reports : PA Gail Otto; CS/IS Susan Nymeyer – Turn in your hours;

A motion was made to secure a spot under the Lions Tent during Crab Festival, seconded and passed. ($275.00) PE Sharon Reppond – Crab Festival there will be information available for the public and VE/PV Alan Morris will be available for vessel exams, efforts will me made to get something in the paper as well as a radio public service announcement. Also Paula Schwartz reported that Main , East, Peterson, Baptist Mission, North Star, St. Marys and Kodiak Christian School were visited by the Coastie Team. 66 children (Kindergarten & 1 st Grade) saw the presentation – good job; very successful!

Old Business : VFC and Mike Herter were thanked for their assistance and leadership at the Crab Festival Parade. During Crab Festival plans were set for VSC at Dog Bay on 5/24. ABS classes were offered on April 29 & May 1 – went well. More classes need to be set up for the summer. Chief Hazlitt at the Boat house wants any and all personnel to have the ABS class. Instructors and others would work out the dates and times to offer the classes. Mike Ross will check on the status of the newly constructed KDF boxes and lead getting the ready for use.

New Business : Pete Malley reported that MWR has set aside 2 vessels for the Wounded Warriors Program and Chief Hazlitt is requesting that the Auxiliary provide two qualified operators to run the vessels. The Auxiliary has first option to participate the weeks of 7/15-7/22 and 7/28-8/4. 4 Days are set aside for fishing.

FC Amberg shared that the Base Captain Mark Carmel stipulated that the Auxiliary ABS classes as well as the MWR requirements will be necessary for anyone to use the MWR vessels and that the Boat House is available for classes.

We said goodbye to Mark Gilmore, a Coast Guardsman who is transferring on 6/3. Thanks for all your help and guidance as we work with Base personnel.
