U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY
MEETING MINUTES
September 8, 2007

Called to order 8:38 a.m. 

Visitors:  Introduced prospective members Dave Willson with KIB School District, Lynn Scholie (sp?), Steve Campbell's wife, and Chrystle White, Secretary to Captain Gatlin of ISC.  USCG Mark Gilmore is in charge of Security and reiterated the need for a decal for Aux members who do not already have decals.

FC Comments

Moment of silence in honor of former active Aux member Maikke Myers.  Presented Certificate of Acceptance to Officer Tom Maloney, Paula Schwartz, Len Schwartz, and Jessica Aure-DeGuzman.  Presented vessel examiner kit to Joe Spears.

Staff Officer Reports

Susan N., Information & Communications Services - Need member hours.  Funding is supported by number of hours reported.  Can e-mail to Susan or download form and turn in at future meeting.

Bob H. for George L., Operations - Chief Gross to come at end of September.  Will certify anyone who wants to be crew.  Must have 100, 200, 300 and 700 level ISC classes.  Need ODUs and need to be reading the Seamanship manual.  Some of the training for crew may be given at annual meeting in February.  Kodiak has two vessels ready.  There is a 9-day coxswain training in April and hope to get 3 members signed off there.  (ODU is the blue uniform, at a cost of approximately $45.  May wear deck shoes in lieu of boots.)

Fritz M., Environmental - Class for environmental compliance training for people managing hazardous waste 9/25 through 9/28.  Let Mike A. know if interested.

Sharon R., Public Education - ABC classes to be scheduled annually for October, February and April.  Need teacher's workshop for people interested in becoming instructors.  If you're interested, let Sharon Reppond (486-6593) know.  Next ABC class will be following October 13th meeting.  Sharon (486-6593).

Members in progress can contact Jenni McCarty (486-2358)., Personnel Services, with any questions regarding their application process.  First step is ABC class.

Old Business

Kids Don't Float - Pastor Nymeyer reported they have assembled 7 new boxes.  Discussion re mold-inhibiting paint.  Contact Mike Ross if interested in helping paint.  Question of contacting Carl at Royal T Graphics to see about Kids Don't Float on top and USCG on side of boxes and potential cost.  Believe he already has the cut-outs.  Discussion on boxes being pulled in October and can use Dave Ardinger's flat bed; Herter's will do.

New Business

Nominations for next year's officers which will be voted on at the October 13th meeting were:

George Lee nominated for VFC                         Steve Campbell nominated for VFC

Annual dues are paid at the September meeting, $70 per couple and $45 per person.  Can also mail to Suzanne Jensen at 3218 Wilton White Way; Kodiak.
