U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY June 9, 2007 Called to order 8:40 a.m. Visitor Comments: Introduced Laura Slater ADF&G who has submitted paperwork. FC Comments Again reminded rules for Galley are 2 guests per month. Operations dress uniform (ODUs) is needed for dock watch. Captain Carmel said there is person on Base who sews things on uniforms. Staff Officer Comments & Reports Susan N., Information & Communications Services - Reiterated need for hours. Suggest keep copy of Activity Log handy. Can go online, type in, then print.Mike A., Member Training - working on organizing folders. 5/20-5/22 Ops training to occur. Had fire training for one class.Suzanne J., Finance - query about ADF&G attendees and billing for last ABC class. Got it clarified.Jenni M., Personnel Services - Couple more names to follow up. New member packet keeps changing but is now available in PDF on web. Sharon R., Public Education - If interested in becoming an instructor, talk to Susan N. or Sharon R. There is a manual with a written test. First step is 10-minute presentation in small group setting, then teach for 2 hours which is approximately 2 ABC chapters. Need more instructors to do ABC chapters. Old Business Life vest boxes - Captain Carmel mentioned need different spot for box set out on Base due to construction. Sr. Chief Burke Ford has extra plywood. Bob Hough offered use of Building 19. Pastor Mark and Mike Ross will cut then assemble. Work crew needed when they are cut out. Still waiting for approval for materials from SBS. Plan to construct 6 more. Suzanne reminded Old Harbor still needs another box. FC Amberg reported all school field trips were covered with life vests from us and the Harbormaster. Boxes are currently under Building 26. Four of them are suitable to put out, rest need repairs. Crab Fest - presence was a success. Thanks to Mike Herter for following through. New Business Alaska Waterwise course - Opportunity for training in November with KANA and Alaska State Troopers. Suggest Steve Campbell and Dennis McMurry offer their expertise. Fourth of July - FC Amberg plans camper out there all week by boat launch. Suggested 4 x 4 with hooks and sandbags to keep in place. Member & Visitor Comments FC Amberg - interesting tidbit - there are 35,000 active duty Coast Guard, 8,000 reservists, and 38,000 Auxiliarists. We add value to USCG by sheer numbers.Pete Malley said next meeting Wounded Warrior Project is 6/20 at 7:00 p.m. at Mill Bay coffee. Let Pete know if you're interested in helping.
