U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY
MEETING MINUTES
July 14, 2007

Called to order 8:30 a.m.

Visitor Comments: Introduced Lana, Maaike’s mom from Nevada.

FC Comments
FC Amberg did set up at Pasagshack over July 4th and gave out two life vests. Had two posts to hang jackets on but location was too noisy and too high traffic. Will try again another year as need is still there.

Bob H. and Mike A. finished the 300 level ICS training. The 100 and 200 level must be done first and are only good for 3 years. The 100, 200 and 700 are all required before taking the 300 level.

Staff Officer Comments & Reports
Susan N., Information & Communications Services - Discussion re using the form online to report hours. Reiterated need for hours. Suggest keep copy of Activity Log handy. Can go online, type in, then print.

Maaike M., Public Affairs & Publications - Would love ideas for newsletter. Will have info applicable to general public so interested in potential places to distribute. Susan N. suggested posting one at Safeway. Maaike also needs more info re life vest boxes so she can make signs or decals.

Sharon R., Public Education - Need to know when can schedule another ABC class so potential new members can meet their qualifications. Suggested we post committed dates at Boat Harbor, ADF&G, and also contact local insurance companies. General consensus was February, April and October meeting dates to schedule classes for sure and add a fourth one as need arises. Bob Hough said would commit 8 attendees to the next class for work boat ops.

Old Business
Life vest boxes - At the time of this meeting none have been put out. Cecil S. and Mike R. will make arrangements to see if they can put out the four that have been outside Building 25 since May. The lumber need has grown many-fold compared to when we first asked SBS for donations.

New Business
Call for more instructors for the ABC class. The two members who can sign off instructors are Susan N. and Suzanne J. An interested member gives a brief presentation after reviewing the online manual and taking a test. Contact Sharon 486-6593 or kreppond@gci.net if interested. Thanks to Gail Otto for her presentation given after this meeting.
