MINUTES TO SPECIAL MEETING
U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY
January 13, 2007
Called to order 8:35 a.m.
Introduction of Visitors & New Members:
Prospective member Gail Otto introduced and
recent new members Rich Walker and Bob Hough introduced.
Flotilla Staff Officers: Swore
in new officers present.
Staff Officer Comments & Reports
1. Susan N., Communication Services and
Information Services, description of staff officer duties are online if
anyone would like to see what duties are. Reminder for January hours.
Funding for District as a whole is based on hours. Even if searching the web
or talking to other members count. Please put the hours on pass-around sheet
or Aux form.
2. Suzanne J., Finance, will have report on end
of last calendar year at next meeting.
3. Fritz M., Marine Safety & Environmental, will
take any input from people interested.
4. George L, Operations, discussion crew
qualified and coxswain qualified. Steve Campbell is only member crew
qualified. There is coxswain academy in Homer in April. We need coxswain
level before can assist with patrols. If interested in becoming crew
qualified, which is a test regarding navigation, seamanship, knots, rigging,
towing, etc., please contact Mike Amberg or George Lee.
5. Mike A., Member Training, Bob Hough offered
training room in Building 26. Will fit 25-30 people and has Internet access.
Susan N. will train staff officers on AUX Info and AUX Data. If it isn't in
AUX Info, it didn't happen.
6. Maaike M., Public Affairs and Publications,
wondering what we want to present at ComFish. She reserved the booth. Susan
will see if she has template for sign-up hours. Short discussion on what
duties would be including Coastie.
Old Business
1. Captain Carmel is asking the Exchange if they
will carry our hats. These hats can only be worn with ODU or dress. Nothing
with an insignia can be worn off duty. Believe they have all the required
clothing.
2. District Conference - flyer was e-mailed;
dates 15 Feb through 19 Feb. Any questions contact Mike Amberg
3. ABC classes - 2/10, 3/10, and 4/14 - flyer
e-mailed re value of obtaining this first level training. It is necessary in
order to attend future training. Can be done online also.
New Business
Division 2 Vice Captain (VCP-2) Sandy Mazen
arriving today (01/13) to do vessel exam and a vessel exam class. Using Pete
Malley and George Kontra's vessels.
Volunteers to solicit contributions from local
businesses to be raffled off at District Conference include: George Lee,
Jessica DeGuzman, Rich Walker, Bart will try for KOS sweatshirt, Bob will
contribute hat.
Chris Otto will contact people who do not have
e-mail address to remind of meetings and events. If any of you who have
e-mails still want a phone call, please let Mike Amberg know.
Visitor Comments
George Kontra commented on the ABC class online
versus what we're offering versus what is available online through the
Auxiliary. Any questions check with Mike Amberg. Reminder of new requirement
that new members need to be ABC qualified in order to send in membership
packets.
Question of how soon recent batch of new members
would receive membership cards. Response is takes 6 weeks to 6 months, but
if you have your member number that is sufficient for MWR.
