MINUTES TO SPECIAL MEETING
U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY
February 10, 2007
 
Called to order 8:34 a.m.
 
Introduction of Visitors & New Members:
Alan Fox with ComSta was introduced. He is from Key West and is qualified as crewman and was Small Boat liaison. Kerry Wood and Fritz Miller were sworn in as new members.
 
Captain Carmel reported the hats are in and USCG is looking for our support in buying them. Reminder to use UDC. If have questions, please ask.
Mark Gilmore reported his contact is no longer with Lucky Bag but Captain Carmel will do some networking to see if one can be found.
 
Staff Officer Comments & Reports
1. Dennis M., Aids to Navigation. Looks for aids not operating and reports on ch 16 or 22. Anyone can look for; if note any, contact Dennis.
2. Tad M., Communications.
3. Walt H., Materials.
4. Mike A., Member training. Mike is who to contact if you're not sure what your next step is as a member of the Aux.
5. George L., Ops. Need 1 coxswain and 2 crew members. George Contra and Pete O'Malley have volunteered their boats for the operations activities. Sandi Mazen will be here again 02/10 and certify Joe Spear and Mike Amberg for vessel exams.
6. Fritz M., Marine Safety & Enviro Svs. One idea is to go to littered beaches and do some cleanup.
7. Maaike M., Public Affairs & Publications. Plans quarterly newsletter. Contact her if any ideas. If have anything for media, let her know and she can cover with radio announcements or newspaper PR.
 
Old Business
1. Hats: Will be part of the official uniform so cannot be worn with casual wear. Female uniforms now have a tunic style shirt. Suggestion to bring hats to meeting and might sell quicker.
2. ABC classes - 2/10, 3/10, and 4/14 - before paperwork is sent in on new members, this class must be taken. Certifications for instructors have become more detailed. Questions see Mike Amberg.
 
New Business
1. Vests and boxes - need inventory. Herter's to provide. Susan needs repeat of list of repairs needed on boxes.
2. ComFish sign-up sheet will follow. Coastie will be here. Training to follow with Sharon.
 
Member & Visitor Comments
George Kontra reported in the past it has been difficult to find information in the community about vessel exams. Need to get info to Maaike for public and maybe contact insurance companies for help in publicizing. Jackie Herter reminded members Gil did 22 exams his last year.
 
Steve Campbell needed vessel safety check forms.
Discussion about activities to do with troopers but needs to be without penalty.
Thanks to Printmasters for all the copies they've made.
