MINUTES TO REGULAR MEETING
U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY May 14, 2005 Called to order 8:35 a.m. Introductions: Introduced visitor CDR Cameron and new members Shane, Tammy and Mike. FC Remarks: FC George Lee showed thank you from Bob Harvey and Roy Stoddard re ABC training. All members who participated in training were again thanked. It was noted that all new members need to take this class to become qualified and eligible for further training. It’s an 8-hour class and costs $35 and the next one may be the weekend after July 4th. FC Lee also noted we have a new office in Building 54, between Golden Anchor and the Bowling Alley on the first floor, suite number BR2. He was given 5 keys and George Lee, Gil DeGuzman, Dave Yakish, and Suzanne Jensen were given keys. Comment was made re a need for name on door. George Lee could also use help organizing paperwork. FC Lee thanked Mark Nymeyer for completing the boxes for life vests: 4 4-footers and 1-8 footer. SBS donated approximately $500 in materials and Royal T’s charged only $50 for creating decals. Old Harbor needs 2 and Ouzinkie is requesting 1. There was discussion about need to go over life jackets, particularly ones that had been out all winter. Weldon had put some boxes and vests out. Nedrow’s will check St. Paul periodically and Gil DeGuzman will check Dog Bay periodically to see if supplies need replenishing. Mr. Nedrow mentioned life vests that belonged to Harbormaster and what they might be doing with the extras. (Think he was going to check on that but not sure??) FC Lee gave awards to Mark Nymeyer for 5-year member; Susan Nymeyer, Suzanne Jensen, and Tim Tesche as instructor specialist; Weldon Kelly and Gil DeGuzman as vessel examiner and facilities inspector. It was noted that Ken and Sally VanDyke and Aaron May were disenrolling. VFC Suzanne Jensen reported approximately $ in bank account. $35 annual dues are still needed from many. Also some tests are still outstanding. Visitor Comments: CDR Cameron worked with Miami Beach Florida flotilla previously and is excited about working with us. She has been in USCG 21 years. She is also personnel services and is in Building N38 on the first floor on the water side. Don’t hesitate to ask for office supplies if needed and to use her as a resource. Member Comments: Still need the paper from ComFish with names to be contacted. Gil already contacted the ones on the list he had and two of the new members came from ComFish. Joy Ng mentioned certain insurance companies will give a discount on vessel insurance, believe it was if vessel passed examination. Jackie Herter asked if we were doing anything for Crab Fest. Mark Nymeyer mentioned putting boxes out at Crab Fest would be good opportunity. Herter’s boat was volunteered and Jackie was to e-mail what needs were. Biggest need was for banners to show who we are. Suggestion was made for vessel examination drive. Susan Nymeyer mentioned Safe Boating Week. An Executive Proclamation by Governor Murkowski was passed around. Dave Yakish mentioned need for people with crew member’s license. Also need people willing to put in 30 hours of training. This has to be done before Coxswain qualified. If anyone is traveling out of state, might want to look into training offered close to where you’re going. It is under Education, Specialty Courses on the website. Next meeting will be at the Galley at 8:30 a.m. Saturday June 11th. Meeting adjourned at 9:20 a.m. Respectfully submitted, |
