MINUTES TO REGULAR MEETING
U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY
July 9, 2005
Called to order 8:45 a.m.

FC Remarks & Announcements:
FC George Lee noted seven new members were at his house to complete paperwork.
FC Lee is looking for ideas how to get the life jacket boxes to the villages. The one on the ramp on Shelikof needs to be covered. Pastor Nymeyer asked if more needed to be built. FC Lee says all of them have been filled with life jackets. We need to order more life jackets for next year to replace and replenish. Removing from the boxes and cleaning and stowing will be an end-of-season task.

FC Lee gave the example of his recent outing to Pasagshack over a holiday when approximately 50 people were on the water but only two had life jackets. The story of member Mike Amberg who put one on for the first time in 10 years and was knocked off a vessel that was 50 feet away before they noticed him in the water.

Approval of Minutes by Tim Tesche.

Staff Reports:
Susan N. reminded everyone to send hours no matter what the task. She has been putting the Minutes online (after she receives them belatedly from yours truly).
Gil D. performed 12 vessel safety checks in the last month, one 5-star and lots of singles. We need more people to pass tests so they can help and expand numbers being done. Major pre-requisite is the ABC Course.

Tim T. confirmed the next ABC class is 7/16 and at the Community Center. Olga E. to advertise the upcoming ABC Course. Discussion on who would be teaching different chapters.

Dave Y. nothing to report.

Introductions:
Meika Meyers (apologize for name misspelling), volunteer EMT and former CG dependent married to Tom Maloney and owner of Print Master's. Mr. Ross with KPD. Jason and Todd of military police were present and were eyes and ears for CDR Cameron. Any concerns may be voiced and they will report back. Plan will be to have military police reps at meetings in the future.

Member Comments:
Comment re handouts to kids. Members should get some and keep them on their persons then reward kids for having life jackets on. FC Lee reminded members he has whistles available at the office as well as the certificates for kids. Visitor Meyers asked if the Aux has gone to local retailers who sell kayaks and distributed whistles and answer was no. (Great idea Meika).
Dave Y. was able to give his key to Tim T. If anyone else needs a key to the office, there is one in Security and it can be checked out.

Discussion re proper forms for fingerprinting not available when three potential members showed up 7/7. FC Lee to check with people in Juneau re form number and potential supply. Suggested to call and ask Security when the set times were for fingerprinting.

FC Lee mentioned would like to have a social in August or September, 8/20/05 is potential date,
4:00 p.m. on a Saturday, bring a dish.
Next meeting is on 8-13-05 8:30 a.m. at the Galley.
Meeting adjourned @ 9:10 a.m.
